This blog is dedicated to some of the coolest things people have thought to create, whether they're mere concept designs or have actually been produced.

New Way to Charge on the Go: The nPower PEG

Now you can create the energy to power up your cellphone or other small gadget just by walking.  Tremont Electric has announced that they’re nPower PEG (Personal Energy Generator) – a wearable generator that recharges cell phones, Mp3 players, cameras, and GPS devices by harvesting the kinetic energy generated by human walking – is now available for purchase.
Unlike mobile power solutions and chargers that require turning hand cranks, setting up solar arrays or carrying fuel, the PEG is completely self-contained and passive. By placing the PEG vertically in your backpack or briefcase and carrying it with you as you walk, it will collect and store energy for situations where you’re off-grid and on-the-go.
nPower says the PEG is compatible with over 3,000 hand-held devices. The PEG allows you to create renewable energy by walking, thus reducing your personal carbon footprint with every stride. Its unique adaptive control system automatically adjusts to your activity to extract maximum power. When mounted it can harvest energy from the movement of a kayak or bike. It’s made with a tough polycarbonate frame and contains a fully recyclable lithium polymer battery and components.
The nPower PEG is available for purchase from the nPower websitefor $149.99

Not Your Average Calendar: The Ink Calendar

“We could use a good wall calendar, but conventional calendars just aren’t kooky enough for us. This Ink Calendar by Oscar Diaz might do the trick, because it’s unlike any we’ve ever seen. You start off the month with a full ink well, and when you dip the special paper inside, its carefully timed capillary action reveals each date as time passes.
Each month uses a different color ink, ranging from variations of green in the spring, orange and red during the summer, and shades of blue in the chilly months of winter. So far, it’s part of an art exhibition at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid, but we’re thinking that if this brilliant design concept is accurate enough, it might be a popular fixture in hipster cribs worldwide.”

“Wonkey” Stops the Wobble:
“Over the years I would ask for a matchbook and use that as a wedge to stabilize the table. Guess what? Most places don’t have matchbooks anymore. The whole situation was downright irritating. But now I’ll be ready for the next time because I have the Wonkey.
The Wonkey is a small, silicone wedge made in the shape of a key. Just put it on your keychain and the next time you have a “wonky” table, you’ll be ready. The only downside is when you use it, you have to remember not to leave it behind.”

“The simply named ‘Road Lights’ is a system of wind generated roadside lights powered by the wind of vehicles driving by them.  Why waste that wall of air that’s created by cars as they speed by?  The energy captured by the system illuminates a series of pegs 50-100 meters in front of you to lead the way. Eco-friendly and a perfect opportunity for a really creative car commercial.”

Invention Today to Help You Wake Up Tomorrow: The Flying Alarm Clock

Find it hard to wake up in the morning? This alarm clock will get you jumping out of bed. At the appointed time, it goes off with a loud (and extremely annoying)siren and launches a rotor into the air that flies around the room.  To turn the alarm off you have to get up, find the rotor and place it back on the clock.

Today’s Toasty Invention: The Transparent Toaster
Wish there was a way that you could see how crispy your toast had gotten so that you can get it out when its just right? This transparent toaster lets you do just that. Heating the bread using transparent heating glass technology, this toaster allows you to see the bread while it is being toasted and lets you easily turn off the toaster when the bread has turned that shade of golden brown that you like best.

The Punch Camera is a new take on the classic camera.  Simply take a photo, slip in a piece of paper and give the camera a whack.  The result is a dot-matrix-style photo that you can use later to look the photo up online.

Today’s Innovative Invention: The Drumbrella
Nothing cheers up a rainy day like some upbeat music. Most people would opt to plug in some earbuds and listen to actual music as they’re going about their daily activities, but the Drumbrella (or “Rain Drum“) takes a different approach: it uses the raindrops themselves to produce unique sounds as the user walks through the downpour.

Each segment of the musical umbrella is covered with a taut waxed cloth; the different tension levels and sizes of each mean that a distinct sound is produced by every part of the umbrella. According to designer Dong Min Park, the segments all correspond to a specific part of a standard drum kit.
